Checking in on the garden stats. :)

Today I planted the first half of my veggies: potatoes, peas, radishes, parsnips, carrots, lettuce, spinach, dill, cilantro, soy beans, broad beans... I think that is all for this round.  I will finish up after the long weekend.

I transplanted the rest of my seedlings into bigger pots for the last week or two before they can go out to the garden.  Oh, I also found some sunflowers that were growing from last year.  I believe my son planted those for me! They were in the middle of a planter so I moved them to the back of a couple planters to open up the space for my veggies.

In the yard, my one pear tree is just finishing up blooming, as is my honeyberries.  My other pear is in full bloom! (Why did I not get photos today??)  My cherries are starting to bloom, the evans has not opened yet, the valentine, passion, and carmine jewel are about half opened.  My very heavy producing september ruby apples are taking the year off after a high yield last year.  My new apple, who's name I can not think of right now, is about to blossom in the next few days.  Currents are blooming, strawberries are blooming, raspberries are leafing out, and my yard is coming to life!

Oh! And today I started my straw bale prep.... yes, a little pate for those this year! Oops!  Will talk more of that next time!

Spring growth and tomato transplanting!

Today my tomatoes needed to be put in bigger pots! It was over due and the plants were starting to look a little sad, but I had to wait until the weather was nice enough outside for me to work out there. Here are my sad overgrown tomatoes!

 

Much Happier Tomatoes all potted and ready for the next 3 weeks of life on the move!  Outside in the day and inside at night until they are ready to stay out a few days day and night, then transplanting time!

Honeyberries are in full bloom and the bees are a buzzing on the back yard!

 

 My herb garden is all cleaned up!  I do a mix of annuals and perennials.  However my perennials seem to have not fared to well this past winter.  My beautiful Lemon Balm plant and my Chocolate Mint seemed to have been victims of the winter, but today I did see some very small signs of life in my plants!!  My three sage plants do not seem to have made it though.

The seedlings are growing!!

Today I added a little dirt to my seedlings.  I start them with the dirt a little low and then once they grow a bit, I add some soil to support the stem and allow for better rooting.  I am pretty happy with how they are growing!

My first batch of seedlings are all up and doing wonderful!  I will add some more dirt to the starter pots to strengthen the root ball and let them grow in these for a little while yet before transplanting.
My send batch, started just last week, are starting to pop through as well!  The second batch has mostly flowers but a few tomatoes as well.
One more batch to start in a couple weeks with my cucs, melons and squash!

Oh such happy little seeds in their indoor mini green house!  The humidity did say 96% before I opened the zipper and let enough out so I could get a picture without the camera and the thermometer screen fogging up!  These little seeds should be sprouting in no time in these conditions!

Starting out 2012!

This year I am going to try to blog my gardening year as it happens ... rather than posting a year at a glimpse in photos, once it is all over!

Today was the start... the kids and I started our seeds today.  I have a few more to do yet tomorrow, but today we got in our tomatoes started. (minus the yellow pears.  We love our yellow pears and I thought I has seeds left, but alas, I was out and didn't order any.  I hope I can get some this weekend at Seed Saturday!) Also peppers, summer savory, thai and sweet basil, Em planted some Asters and Zinnias, and Luke planted a watermelon. Tomorrow I have to start my broccoli, celery, and a couple other things I can't remember right now.

Oh, also, I went and checked out the yard for the first time... I cannot believe it, but I have green oregano out there! I am sooo excited. And some unknown spring bulbs popping up. ;)

Unknown bulbs popping through.  I have a lot of bulbs planted, so I don't know yet what these are.  Oh! And do you see the little lady bug checking things out!  I think it is still a bit cold for him though.  Maybe the bulbs pushed him out of his slumber spot.

mmmmm.... these made some delicious jelly!!  First time there is enough to pick!  Too many berries in my backyard now for the birds to get them all!
